As well as the modem configuration, you need to make sure the serial port hardware is configured correctly to enable WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) to actually talk to the modem. This is not such a big deal, however, since modems normally adjust automatically to whatever settings are being used on the PC connection port.

When you run the automatic setup procedure with the modem port and initialisation option on the Communications Mode settings menu, the suggested configuration string includes the serial port setup directive:

"p,e,7,,s",

which sets even parity, 7 data bits and software flow control for Typetalk compatibility. If you are not using Typetalk, you can delete this directive altogether so as to set the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) default serial port parameters of 115,200 Baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop  bit and hardware flow control, or you can replace the "e" by "o" if you need odd parity. The complete list of serial port setup options is given in the serial port configuration section of the user manual chapter on configuration and customisation.

Notice that the Baud rate is not changed from the WTC default in the default textphone setup. The Baud rate set by this directive is the rate of data flow between the modem and the computer, not the connection speed between the modem and another modem at the other end of the telephone line, which is set via the modem initialisation string. These Baud rates do not have to be the same,        the modem handles the transfer of data at the different speeds and can operate at a much higher speed for the PC connection.
