WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) is ready to use as soon as you have run the Installation Wizard to unpack the software onto your computer. If you are upgrading the installation to a later version (evaluation or registered), or from an evaluation edition to a registered version (same, later or reverting to original registered version), the upgrade will just pick up on the settings you were using before and there is nothing more to do, just carry on using WintextCom.
If you have just installed the software for the first time, the Launchpad features are fully usable as-is, but there are some basic changes you may wish to make to the default settings to suit your requirements. You will certainly need to do some additional setting up if you want to use the text-to-text telephone calls capabiliy. If you are not using the Windows Text Communications features, you nay require to set up the Windows Launchpad for dialling telephone numbers, and in both cases, if you are a Braille user, you will need to enable Braille support and specify the length of your Braille display.
There are two ways to fine tune WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) when you have installed it. The first is to use the automatic setup dialogue appropriate to your usage, as described in the following sections, and the second is to edit the settings file. Automatic setup is less involved, but there are situations in which WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) cannot identify or configure your computer's modem, in which case you need to use the settings file method. It also becomes more straightforward to edit the settings file directly than use the automatic setup dialogue box if you wish to apply extensive customisations, immediately or at a later date.
The following Sections of this setup guide describe the procedure for making the most basic changes likely to be required at the outset. For information on more advanced options, see the configuration and customisation chapter in the user manual.
