If the automatic setup dialogue fails to establish correct settings for your modem, you will have to set the system up manually. There are two ways to do this, either use the automatic setup dialogue but enter the missing information into the port number box yourself by typing it in when the serial port scan is complete, or open the settings file and enter the required configuration information in a text editor.

To set up the Windows Text Communications text-to-text telephone features, we recommend using the settings file, since a greater or a lesser amount of editing may be entailed, depending on the level of complexity of establishing the modem settings. In the following sections, a manual setup procedure is suggested based on the settings file.
