If you are running the install program to install an upgrade to your current WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) installation, you should make sure that WTC is not running at the time. In order to upgrade the software, the install program must replace the main program file for WTC, and Windows will not allow it to do that if the software is running. When you click the OK button on the opening information screen of the install wizard, another message box appears if WTC is running, telling you to close the program and then click OK to continue, or click Cancel to exit if you do not wish to proceed. Note that if you are installing an evaluation edition of the software, this information will be included in the name of the running program in the notification dialogue, even if it is a registered version of WTC that is running; you should ignore this, the important thing is that a version of WTC is open and must be closed before a later version can be installed.
To proceed with installation, first activate WTC by pressing its shortcut key or clicking one of its icons, shut the program down by pressing Alt+F4, for example, then click OK in the setup dialogue to continue. If you cancel out, the installer terminates immediately without asking for confirmation of your intention.
You can install an upgrade straight on top of an existing installation, subject to the above provision, whether an evaluation edition or registered version. The new installation picks up on all settings in effect with the previous installation and you can continue using the software without further interruption. This makes it very easy to try software updates by installing the evaluation edition and then simply replace by the registered version.
Be sure to keep the installer for your current version, however, when trying an update, in case you decide not to purchase an update and want to go back to your older version. S.W.H.-Wintextware does not undertake to be able to resupply old versions of the software.
