Setup has created an icon called "WintextCom" on both your Windows desktop and quick launch bar to start WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) in "Directory Mode". In Directory Mode, WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) runs as a standard Windows application that can be minimised to the taskbar and switched to. The wizard will run WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) in Directory Mode when you click the Finish button on the final screen unless you uncheck the "Start WintextCom now" checkbox. The desktop icon displays the S.W.H.-Wintextware rocket software logo.
You can start or switch to WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) at any time, including while using another Windows application, by clicking one of these icons or pressing the key combination F10. The key combination is a Windows shortcut key attached to the desktop icon, which you can change if required through the icon's property sheet )select the icon and press Alt+ENTER).
It does not matter which icon you click or whether you use the shortcut key to switch back to WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) once it is running, regardless of which method was used to start it in the first place. Activating the program while it is already running switches to the already running instance of the software, it does not start a separate instance.
The installed icons do not apply any specific configuration to the software. The preferred setup for general usage, however, is to run in "Hide Mode". The user is referred to the "Launchpad Setup" or "WintextCom Setup" section of this documentation for information on setting up this operating mode and other features that may have a bearing on your use of WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm), and to the configuration and customisation section for more advanced details. In Hide Mode, WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) runs completely hidden in the background when not needed and does not appear in the Windows task list, but can still be recalled at any time with an icon click or the shortcut key.
If you are installing the Windows Text Communications version of the software and want to use the telecommunications features or other aspects of the serial communications capabilities, you should read the WintextCom Setup section. Launchpad-only users, or those who have the communications enhancements but do not require them to be active by default, should read the Launchpad Setup section for information on standard automatic dialling and general purpose setup.
