When you type characters in VB mode and the modem is offline, they are not sent to the modem as you type them, as per standard communications mode, but are buffered up until Carriage Return (ENTER) is pressed. Characters do appear on the Braille display as you type them, however (but not in the main window). When CR is pressed, a command is sent to the modem based on what you typed. Typing online in a 'phonecall is the same as for standard operation, characters are sent over the line as you type them.

When you press CR offline to send a command, WTC examines what has been typed to see if a supported command is being requested. If not, no command is sent to the modem and no feedback is displayed (the typed text is simply discarded, preventing the user from sending inadvertent commands that might result in unexpected feedback or cause the system to behave incorrectly). If, however, a supported command is interpreted, WTC sends the required text to the modem and presents the accepted message on the Braille display line. By default, the accepted message is "Accepted", in accordance with the feedback of the Dacom modem. Note that the accepted message is only sent to the Braille display, not the main window. The fact that the main window does not display some of the feedback presented on the Braille line is a current limitation of the software, it does not indicate a fault.

The accepted message is also displayed if you press CR without typing anything first, and the return is sent to the modem. This exception is provided to enable pressing CR to be used to clear the modem command line if for any reason it is not responding to valid commands.
