WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) Allows you to use either the US or UK (British) computer Braille translate tables when using its Braille input and output support features. This is a global driver setting that applies to all Braille display and Braille keyboard drivers. With a Braille display, it determines the dot pattern produced on the hardware for each symbol, for Braille keyboard input, it determines the Braille dot combination to press in order to type a symbol. The dot patterns for both input and output are the same for a given translate table.

WTC's default Braille translate table is the US table, which is recommended for the highest level of compatibility with other Braille systems. It can be set explicitly with the "u" option in the driver configuration string. In this table, numeric digits are represented in "dropped notation", they are the same as the corresponding Braille letter but dropped down a dot in the Braille cell.

The British Braille translate table is available for those who prefer it. Although it is more readable in general with punctuation symbols the same as those of Standard English Braille on paper, numeric digits are less obvious at first, being produced by adding a dot six to the corresponding Braille letter for 1-9 and representing 0 with all six dots. The British translate table is set with letter "b" in the driver configuration string.
