The Braille text input feature of WintextCom enables a section of the computer keyboard to be configured so that Braille users can type Braille text, as on a perkins brailler, into WintextCom and other Windows applications.

It should be stressed that the feature was introduced to supplement the use of simple Braille communications features rather than as a global windows keyboard facility. Using a Braille keyboard configuration globally is supported and practical, but conflicts with other applications that process keyboard input at a low level are possible. Depending on the circumstances, if a conflict occurs you can work around it, by disabling the Braille keyboard configuration in that context, or otherwise, but the conflict cannot be resolved. In particular, when using Internet Explorer with the JAWS for Windows screen reader, the standard Braille keyboard configuration will cause problems if JAWS quick keys are also enabled.
