A library shortcut in the reading list is one that opens a document in the WintextCom Reader, or in a preferred reader program if you have set one up. These shortcuts provide extremely quick and easy access to reading material stored in the library, without having to open Library Manager. You can also easily organise reading material in priority order or by groups, for example.

The file specification for a library shortcut appears between double quotation marks, even if it does not include spaces. This indicates to WintextCom that when such an entry is left clicked or ENTER is pressed while it has the highlight, your document reader will display the file. If the file specification does not include an extension and is not a folder, ".txt" is automatically added, but note that a specification with a trailing period is not modified.

However, there is some useful formatting flexibility with library shortcuts. You may include additional text on either side of the quoted file specification. If there is text before the opening quote, it must be separated from it by a space. This flexibility enables you to display additional information about documents in the reading list itself, such as the author of a book or name of person who sent the text in an e-mail message, etc. If there is no text after the file specification, the closing quote can be omitted, which makes it slightly simpler when manually editing shortcuts generated by File Manager.

You can use "~" before a file or folder specification to make it relative to the WintextCom installation folder. If a path beginning with "~" is not preceded or followed by additional text, it is always treated as a library shortcut, without having to enclose it in quotes, making it easy to reference home files and folders in the reader. However, if there is text before or after the path specification, it must be in quotes, even if it starts with "~"; the closing quote can be omitted if no text follows the file or folder specification.
