Reading List Entries

A standard reading list entry consists of a name for the entry and the file specification as the information. You should not include a description (the item type field in the store item dialogue); if you do, it is separated from the name by a semicolon rather than a comma, and the entry performs default directory execution/ If you want to enter additional descriptive text, therefore, and still open a document, you must prefix the file specification with the read item symbol, '/'.

The above format rule means that a standard reading list entry is just an entry name followed by a colon, a space, then the file specification. If the file specification is just a filename, it is assumed to reside at the end of the path to the user's library folder. File specifications can include a relative path that is taken with respect to the library, or you can specify a fully qualified path to reference files or folders outside the library. Folder names are also allowed, and are opened either in File Manager or Library Manager, depending on the type of shortcut as determined by the use of quotation marks.

File specifications that include spaces should not be enclosed in quotes unless this is required anyway. The use of double quotes determines whether a shortcut is a File Manager or reader shortcut, as described in the sections below.

You can insert, add and modify reading list entries just like standard directory entries. WintextCom also provides some dedicated features for quickly creating reading list shortcuts. These are mentioned in context elsewhere in this documentation, and also summarised in the following sections.
