As well as listing actual e-mail addresses in the WintextCom directory, you can create shortcuts to recipients and lists in the Windows personal address book. The Windows address book is the contacts list that is used by your e-mail program by default. This capability of WintextCom enables you to integrate seamlessly with the Windows address book without having to copy addresses form one to the other.
Being able to use Windows address book recipients directly from WintextCom is convenient if you already use the address book when you start using WintextCom. It also enables you to easily utilise the Windows address book for e-mail instead of or in conjunction with the WintextCom directory, according to your preferences. All of WintextCom's e-mail template features are available when you invoke address book entries from the directory.
You can access information in the Windows address book in several ways with the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm):
- By pressing Control+Shift+O in the directory, or WindowsKey+Shift+O in any other application when WintextCom is running in the background. This is the same as clicking the select address book item tool bar button or the open address book file menu option. If you copy address book information to the Windows clipboard and then click the address book OK button, the information is "executed". This is analogous to selecting a directory entry with the copied information in the information field, and can be used to dial 'phone numbers or use e-mail addresses from the address book. When you begin a new e-mail message from the address book in this way, WintextCom's default signature settings take effect. The original contents of the clipboard, from before the address book opens, is preserved.
- By clicking the address book button in the dialogue box that you use to store entries in the directory. While the address book is open, the information that was available to be saved in the directory entry information field, or was already in the current or adjacent directory entry information field, is available on the clipboard to be pasted into an address book location. If you click the address book OK button, the store item dialogue box also closes and the original content of the clipboard is restored.
- By pressing Control+Shift+G in the directory, or WindowsKey+Shift+G in any other application when WintextCom is running in the background. This is the same as clicking the paste address book item tool bar button or address book option on the send menu. If you copy address book information to the clipboard and then click the address book OK button, the information is pasted into the underlying application. This is analogous to highlighting a directory entry containing the information in the information field and pressing Control+ENTER, or double left clicking the entry. The original content of the clipboard is preserved.
- By clicking the new e-mail message tool bar button or pressing Control+Shift+E in the directory, or WindowsKey+Shift+E in any other application when WintextCom is running in the background. This is equivalent to selecting the new e-mail message option on the e-mail menu under tools. Select recipients from the address book. When you click OK, a new message to the selected recipients is created for you to fill in the subject and body. WintextCom's default signature settings take effect.
As with other WintextCom e-mail features, the address book support varies with different e-mail programs. The features described are fully supported within Windows itself, but the implementation for 3rd-party e-mail products depends upon those products.
