The WintextCom Directory is an address book specific to the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) software, where you can store contact information and  information to perform tasks. The term "directory" is used because in its most basic form, it is simply a directory of telephone numbers. However, the directory enables you to store many kinds of contact details, including:

All information stored in the directory, including separate lines of an address such as the postcode, can easily be printed out and pasted into other applications. A common and extremely convenient use of the retrieval capability is the filling in of Internet forms, where the details you need can be stored along with the address of the relevant page.

In addition, directory entries can be used to open documents or run programs. In fact, you can create directory entries that automatically perform very complicated tasks, and you can have files linked to directories. WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) allows you to have any number of directories, individually called "directory lists", which you can associate with documents or programs. For example, you could have a list of e-mail addressees associated with a database. Like contact details, document and program links can be included anywhere in the directory, which means you can include specific action entries along with contact information to which they pertain, for example, to open a notes file for that contact. By including action entries as "note lines", they will not appear in print-outs or when contact information is pasted into other documents. Note lines enable you to include comments and actions that are excluded when printing and retrieving information. Action entries are similar to standard Windows shortcuts as on the desktop, but are much more versatile and provide the capability to access WintextCom features as well; they are also easier to organise and modify, and offer greater flexibility in grouping and associating them with contact information.

It is also possible to subdivide a directory paragraph into sub-paragraphs, which can then be themselves divided into subsections, so as to provide for proper sectioning of information and retrieval of information within a subsection. These features make the WintextCom directory an extremely versatile resource with infinitely many applications, yet it is very simple to work with. It is the standard user interface of Windows Text Communications, and is used with some special rules with features such as the diary, notes and workspace documents.
