With the default settings, WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) starts up showing the directory, which initially (when first shipped) contains a welcome line at the top followed by a few contact details. The directory will grow and look different as you use the software. You can close down the program completely by pressing Alt+F4 or clicking the close button in the main title bar (as opposed to the title bar of the directory itself).
Windows Text Communications always starts up at the top of the directory after being closed down, but the software is designed to run permanently under normal circumstances, receding unobtrusively into the background when not in use. In that case, your position in the directory or individual top level directory lists, as defined by the highlight, is preserved, but not in sub-lists, as described later.
