The display name refers to the name on an e-mail message as opposed to the e-mail address. It is really just a convenience, displaying the name of the sender or recipient instead of their address.

When sending e-mail messages to recipients in the WintextCom directory through your regular e-mail program, WintextCom is only concerned with the display name of the recipient. The sender's display name, that is, yours, is set up in your e-mail program and is used for messages sent out by WintextCom.

The display name use for the recipient of your message is taken from the directory entry's name field, or from the paragraph heading if the entry is in a paragraph. If the entry is in a paragraph and has no item description, the paragraph heading alone is used. If the entry has a description, the name is appended to the paragraph hading after a comma. This enables you to use individual names within a paragraph, but not to include "names" that actually servo as a description, such as "E-mail" when there is only one e-mail address in the paragraph. If the paragraph contains a postal address, the name on the first line of the address is substituted for the paragraph heading line.

A display names= is not automatically included when you select an e-mail address in special directories such as the diary, the e-mail address itself is used. Display names are only extracted from standard directories.

You can override the display name with one of your choice, or specify one in a special directory entry, by enclosing the e-mail address in angle brackets ("<>") an prefixing the required name before the opening angle bracket.
