Sometimes, it might be convenient to process or analyse the results of a System Explorer snapshot in a file. Rather than keep copying and pasting from the System Explorer dialogue box, you can stipulate that the results are redirected to a disk file, and that file opened in its default viewer instead of the dialogue.
To do this:
If the filename does not include path information, your WintextCom library folder is used for convenient future access. You can include a full path specification. Include the file extension, usually ".txt" to view the output in your system editor, no default extension is assumed; if this extension is associated with a program, the file will be opened automatically when System Explorer has written the requested information to it.
The file is overwritten without prompting if it already exists. This enables you to quickly create and view the rendering of different settings or of the same settings in different circumstances, just close the file when you have finished with one output and run System Explorer again. If you would like the output of consecutive System Explorer runs to be accumulated in the file, place a second redirection symbol before the filename in the System Explorer settings input box. In that case, the file is created if it does not initially exist, then subsequent System Explorer runs append the output to it and open it for you to view the aggregate. You should close the file before running System Explorer again.
Once you have specified redirection, it remains in effect until you cancel it or restart WintextCom, you do not need to re-specify the filename or operation for each System Explorer run after the first. To cancel redirection, use the redirection symbol in the settings input box without a following filename, so that it is the last character in the configuration string; redirection is canceled and System Explorer displays is results in its own dialogue box from then on.
