You can explicitly terminate an active call with Windows Text Communications by pressing the Escape key in Communications Mode (or Alt+ENTER if the program is running in Directory Mode). This is equivalent to hanging up a 'phonecall. You can also press the toolbar hang up button to hang up the call in either the directory or communication window, and the behaviour after hanging up in the communications window then depends on the mode in which Windows Text Communications is running, as described below. If you hang up using the toolbar button in the directory, you are always returned to the directory afterwards.

When you issue the hang up command, Windows Text Communications displays a brief progress window verifying that the call is being disconnected, then once the disconnection has been accomplished, goes back to Communications Mode, or if the program is running in

Directory Mode, empties the communications file and displays the directory. The latter behaviour will occur on hang up from the directory via the toolbar button, regardless of whether Directory Mode is enabled.

If required, you can configure Windows Text Communications to prompt when the hang up command is issued to give you a chance to confirm or revoke the instruction. You can also set it to exit the program completely after hang up, as well as chose between software and hardware hang up methods (software by default). see the "ph" directive in the setup file.
