If WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) is running in the background and set up correctly for using the telephone, you can switch the text answerphone on and off from anywhere in Windows by pressing Alt+Escape.
This is the same answerphone command that you use in WTC itself, but it can in fact be used while you are working in any windows application. This can be useful, for example, if you have been working on a document and want to quickly set the answerphone before you go out, you can just press Alt+Escape without activating WTC first. WTC needs to be configured for the answerphone to work in the background for this command to be effective.
When you turn the answerphone on, the confirmation message box appears and when you OK it you are back in whatever application you were working in when you invoked the command, with the answerphone taking incoming calls in the background. However, when you turn it off and OK the confirmation dialogue, WTC becomes the active application so as to enable you to check immediately whether you have any messages.
You can toggle the answerphone on and off without having to OK the message box. Just press Alt+Escape while the current confirmation is displayed and it will change to reflect the new setting. This is convenient if you have accidentally turned the answerphone on or off and want to switch it back again.
