Sometimes it is more convenient to make changes to the directory in a full window text editor than use WTC's inboard features to manipulate entries. In particular, this option allows you to enter postal addresses or other block information in one step by pasting and to edit the result as a whole rather than on a line basis. If you need to make extensive changes to your directory art the same time, this method can afford greater efficiency and accuracy.

Press Control+Shift+ENTER when the directory is on the scree to open it in your Windows editor, Notepad by default. You can then perform whatever editing operations you wish, then close and save your changes. The directory is displayed again in WTC and your changes reflected. Note that this may affect the position of the highlight, which may not be the same after editing as it was before, the previously highlighted entry may even have been deleted or changed.

Use of this option is not recommended by people inexperienced at working with a full text editor, and it can be made unavailable by technical support personnel if this is deemed appropriate to prevent accidental access. The inboard directory editing features of WTC provide for a good level of manipulation and organisation without the risk of destroying the functionality of information entries that is entailed by the inept use of a full text editor.
