Sometimes it is useful to have the answerphone operating irrespective of whether WTC is in the foreground or you are working with some other application. With this setting, you never have to remember to switch the answerphone on or leave WTC in the foreground to take messages, but you can recall the program at any time to review any messages left.

The software installs with a background answerphone utility. This can be found in the Utilities subfolder of the

WintextCom program group under Programs on the Windows start menu. You can press

Ctrl+Alt+F12 at any time to start or recall this utility, which runs separately to your regular instance of WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm). Please note that it is intended for background answerphone use only;

while other features of the software are available, using it to edit the directory in particular is not recommended, since it can conflict with the directory as seen by your regular instance of the program. The separate utility enables you to have the answerphone permanently on without interference in your use of the software for some other purpose, but be aware that you can only then make 'phonecalls with the answerphone utility itself.

If you use WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) normally for making and taking telephone calls and want to enable the background answerphone utility, make sure WTC is not the foreground application at the time you start the answerphone program, or it will be unable to establish communications with the telephone.
