The reading list is a directory list that is used by default to store shortcuts to files and folders. This section briefly describes its use with the library. More documentation on the reading list is presented in a dedicated chapter.

Open the reading list by pressing Control+Space (Control+WindowsKey+Space in any application). You can use the cursor keys or directory search feature to find a shortcut to a library file, and press ENTER to open it in the WintextCom Reader. Because the reading list is just a special directory list, you can organise your shortcuts in groups, paragraphs and sub-paragraphs, independent of the library. This enables you to use the reading list to access reading material in priority order or according to some other criterion, irrespective of the location of the files in the library folder structure. When you have finished with a document, open it from the reading list to delete or move it, or whatever, and then delete or move the reading list shortcut.

To create a reading list shortcut to new information:

  1. Save the new file in the library using capture mode to save information, such as a document or selected text.
  2. Press Control+WindowsKey+space to open the reading list.
  3. Use the cursor keys or the directory search feature to move to the location where you want to insert the new shortcut, if not at the top.
  4. Press F8. This command retrieves the file that was last accessed in the library or by File Manager and creates a link to it in the reading list..
  5. The store item dialogue opens with the name field filled in with a suggested name for the shortcut, which is the primary filename of the document. You can just accept it, or edit it, or type in a completely new name of your choosing. The information field is pre-filled in with the actual shortcut.
  6. Press ENTER. The shortcut is saved in the reading list for future use.
