When you click the Next button on the install confirmation page, or press ENTER on the text, the Installation Wizard checks your system to determine whether you are using the JAWS for Windows screen reader.

JAWS for Windows (JFW) enables blind and visually impaired computer users to operate Windows and its applications with the keyboard instead of the mouse, based on information provided in speech or Braille. JAWS speaks out the contents of the computer screen and/or represents it on an electronic Braille display.

WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) provides special enhancements for JAWS for Windows users. It should be noted that the JAWS support enhancements are not required to use the software with speech or Braille, it works just as well with any other screen reader and its use by a sighted person is entirely irrelevant. What the JAWS support does for visually impaired people is mainly in connection with the Braille display line operation in Communications Mode, where JAWS enables you to use the keys on your Braille display unit to navigate text in Braille and hides the cursor on the display so that it does not obscure the clarity of the first character (if this poses a problem, it can be got round with a WTC configuration setting without hiding the cursor). It is, however, recommended that if you are running JAWS on your system, you do install the support for WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm), which also tidies up the Braille operation in the directory.

If you chose not to install the JAWS support during WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) installation, you can do so at any time from the "Dialling/setup" directory menu in WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm), "J: JAWS setup..." option.

The WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) Installation Wizard automatically detects the presence of JAWS for Windows on your computer, and if found, displays a page recommending that you install the support for WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) when you proceed from the install confirmation page. Because the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) Installation Wizard checks for the presence of JAWS, you must have JAWS installed on your computer before you install WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm).

To begin installing JAWS, simply click the Next button or press ENTER. If you do not want to install JAWS, press the space bar first or use the mouse to uncheck the "Install JFW support" checkbox. If you do not have JAWS on your computer, this page will not appear.

Once you chose to proceed with JAWS support installation, the JAWS for Windows Support Installation Wizard takes over. When JAWS support installation is complete, or if you terminate the JAWS for Windows Support Installation Wizard without completing the installation, you are returned to the next page of the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) Installation Wizard.

You will proceed directly to the next WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) Installation Wizard page if you uncheck the box to chose not to install JAWS support.
