You can edit the web by e-mail template used to request pages from the directory dialling/setup menu. To modify your standard request or use an alternative service, the form of the template will be the same as the default one, but with a different e-mail address and/or different commands.

To request help information for using the default service:

  1. Select a standard web page entry in the directory.
  2. Press Alt Shift W to initialise a web by e-mail request for the page.
  3. In the body of the e-mail message that is displayed to confirm the request, position the cursor at the start of the line that reads "GET".
  4. Press Control Shift End to select the text, then type "help".
  5. Send the message by pressing Control ENTER or whatever you usually do to send a message.

Basic instructions for using the service and information on how to obtain further help will be sent to you in the body of an e-mail message.

Template Format

The first line of the template contains the e-mail address of the robot that will process your page requests. This is optionally followed by a colon and the display name of the outgoing e-mail message (the request). The display name does not really matter, but it simplifies the message description in your Sent Items folder. If no display name is specified, the e-mail address is used.

If the first line of the template is exactly as described above, the following lines appear in the message request, with the address of the selected web page or document appended to the last line after a space.

If the first line of the template is proceeded by a colon "(":"), the rest of the line is processed as if it were the first line without a colon, then the second line is processed as a "control line", enabling you to specify some options. The remaining lines, starting at line 3, are used to fill in the request message as above, with the selected page or document appended to the last line. The control string can contain the following options, specified by single characters:

Any white space at the beginning of the first line of the template, and the second if it is being used as the control line, is ignored. The rest of the template is usd exactly as-is to create the message request.
