WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) has several operating modes, described more fully in the sections under this heading a=d in the documentation of features that use them.
Broadly, WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) operates in one of 2 environments, Directory Mode or Communications Mode.
Communications Mode is the native operating environment, used by the Windows Text Communications features of the software. This mode provides access to information and communications features, enabling you to display text in a full size window and a form that is easily readable by Braille display users. The text that you display may come from a variety of sources, including text typed on the keyboard, the contents of a file, and received over the telephone. The fundamental purpose of Communications Mode, as far as communicating with other people is concerned, is to provide a dedicated means for deaf and deafblind people to talk on the telephone, and the directory is used in this context to store telephone numbers for automatic dialling, and information for easy sending to someone over the 'phone.
Directory Mode means that the operation of the software is centered on the directory, which is displayed by default whenever the program is invoked unless a particular feature of Communications Mode is in use. This mode makes all the Launchpad features of the software for accessing other features and external applications immediately available on startup, and is generally the more useful configuration even if Windows Text Communications is the main focus of your use of the program, since it also makes your telephone numbers immediately available to select for dialling.
