The directory ring comprises all the directory lists that WTC makes available at startup. The default list is loaded and displayed when the directory is first activated (automatically on startup by default). Any additional lists in the ring are cycled by pressing Control+T@ab to move to the next when any list is displayed, or Control+Shift+Tab to move to the previous.

When you have the directory open on screen, you can press Control+Tab to cycle through all the lists in the ring. Each time you invoke this command, the next list in the ring is displayed, with the highlight at the bookmarked position where you last used it (or at the top if it has not been displayed before). Pressing Control+Tab on the last list in the ring cycles back to the first. If there is only one list in the ring, this command has no effect. Cycle in the opposite direction with Control+shift+Tab; using this command on the first directory cycles to the last. In addition, the following switch options are available:

Directory Lists are made available in the ring when WTC starts up. Each directory list corresponds to a file on Disk, which is shown on the status line. You specify these files in WTC's settings using the "dbl" setup directive, which is followed immediately  (without space) by a semicolon-separated list of filenames. The first filename listed is that of the  default directory that you want to be displayed at the outset. If no path is specified with the first filename listed, the default directory path is used, which is the program startup folder unless a user data directory is provided in the system registry (not currently implemented). If no path is specified on subsequent filenames, they default to the path used by the first file.

By default, WTC makes two directory lists available in the ring. The default is in the file "address.txt" along the default directory path. It is displayed by default and is primarily intended for use as an address book or simple list or lists of contact details, although there is nothing to prevent you from adding entries that perform other Launchpad functions as well (or using the list entirely as a Launchpad menu). This file is not overwritten if WTC is

upgraded as it probably contains private data. If "address.txt" is not found when WTC fist tries to use it (after initial installation of if you delete it), it is created from the "address.stp" file, the shipped default.

The second directory list made available under WTC's default settings is the S.W.H.-Wintextware worldwide web directory. This is an Ad Hoc collection of public website addresses arranged in WTC directory format. In the default setup, you can switch between your address book and the web directory by pressing Control+Tab. S.W.H.-Wintextware makes absolutely no warranty for the contents of the websites or for their continued availability after being added to the directory. This disclaimer includes, but is not limited to, accuracy of information provided on the pages, presentation and fitness for particular readers. We do not knowingly include websites that display adult content.

The web directory is provided in the hope that users might find something of interest there. It is contained in the file "wwwdirectory.txt" along the default directory path, and is updated if an upgrade to the software is installed. It is therefore recommended that users do not store their own links to websites in this directory, but rather, use the address book or extra directory list of your own creation. We may remove sites that we know have been discontinued, or for other reasons, so it may be advisable to back up this file prior to installing an upgrade, or habitually copy any sites of interest to your own storage.
