These switches are letters appended to the serial port number in angle brackets ("< >"), separated from it by a plus sign ("+"). They are used to specify the program's startup configuration for directory and serial communications behaviour.
You can include multiple directory mode switches inside the angle brackets, which are processed consecutively from left to right, the effect of later ones overriding that of earlier ones. The switches are case-sensitive ("c" and "C" are different).
For example, use:
"wtc.exe :+<C>"
to establish text-to-text operation in full Hide Mode (the usual configuration for textphone use), or
"wtc.exe :+<Ch>"
to establish textphone operation with partial Hide Mode (can be useful if you want the answerphone to work while the program is in the background). In the second example, the "h" overrides the full setting applied by the "C" switch, you could just as well use lowercase "c" in this example, which establishes text-to-text dialling but does not apply a Hide Mode setting.
Directory Mode switches are not processed if WTC is set to display a progress window as the modem initialisation string is sent, and/or Interactive Offline Communications Mode is enabled. Modem initialisation confirmation and typing to the modem in command mode are normally only required during setup testing, and this restriction is actually intended to prevent Directory or Hide Mode being activated with an interactive terminal run launched from the command line. Other methods of instating settings provided by Directory Mode switches are available if needed.
Most of these switches follow a pattern. The lowercase version sets the information mode temporarily, until it has been used once. Once a request for directory information has been executed, the information mode reverts to the default setting. The uppercase version of the switch instates the information mode as the default.
In the list below, the lowercase letter is given for these switches, followed by the information mode that it addresses. The above rule applies unless otherwise noted.
These switches are handy shortcuts for specifying WTC's answer telephone option. They are exactly the same in form and function as the characters that can immediately follow the "pa" setup file directive. It is only possible via these switches to set the mode of operation, for customisation of the answerphone message and/or answering command, use the "pa" directive itself.
