Apart from the keys constituting the Braille keyboard layout on the Focus displays, the current version of the Freedom Scientific Braille display driver supports only the following commands for Braille display line navigation in Communications Mode:
- Right Navigation Bar: Advance Braille display through available text
- Left Navigation Bar: Move Braille display backwards through available text
- Press Left Whizwheel: Position Braille display at beginning of available text
- Press Right Whizwheel: Position Braille display at end of available text
Rotating the whizwheels is not yet supported and has no effect, nor does pressing any of the front panel keys not list above perform any function.
The Focus shift keys and space bar are used in conjunction with the Braille input keys, as follows:
- Pressing and releasing a Shift key shifts the next Braille character
- Pressing a shift key in combination with a Braille character shifts it
- Pressing and releasing the space bar alone types a space
- Pressing the space bar in combination with Braille dots either performs a chord command or types the character represented by the dot combination followed by a space, depending on the settings
