Once you have saved information in the capture file, you can open the file in the Windows Notepad or other editor to process the information. You can copy and paste it from the capture file into the directory or another storage location and carry out general editing tasks. The capture file is saved in the same folder as your directory files, so that it is easy to swap between them when you have the capture file open. The capture file is called "wtcsave.txt", and the main directory file that comprises your directory is called "address.txt".

You can open the capture file from Communications Mode by pressing Control+ENTER, or by selecting the

"E: Edit capture file"

option on the text menu. The capture file is opened in whatever program you use for plain text files on your computer, Windows Notepad by default.

When you save information in the capture file, whether a marked block or the entire communications file, the capture file is created if i it does not already exist, or if it does exist, the text is appended to it. If you are saving the whole communications file, just the text is saved, but if you are saving a block, it is saved preceded by a line containing five asterisks ("*****,). This delimitation of blocks helps to section off the file for easier reference. In general, the main purpose in saving the whole communications file is to accumulate the proceedings of a meeting, or similar, where you would later he moving the file or its contents as a whole to a new location and the demarcation would not be required.

When you exit the capture file, you are returned to WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) in Communications Mode. However, while you are working in the capture file, you can still switch to WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) to use separately, if the telephone rings, for example. If you use WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) while the capture file is open, you will return to the program in the state you last left it when you close the capture file.

When you have finished with the information in the capture file, it is best to delete the file to prevent unnecessary accumulation of old material. Some editing programs allow you to delete the file you are working in from the editor itself when you have finished with it. This is the case with the Semware Editor Processional, which is used to edit the capture file if it is set up on your computer. If your editor does not allow you to delete the file, however, you can do so from WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm):

  1. Make sure you do not have the capture file open
  2. In Communications Mode, press Alt+T or click "Text" on the menu bar to open the Text menu
  3. Press letter "D" or select the delete capture file option on the menu
