In order to be able to send and receive mobile 'phone texts (the short message service texts, SMS) with WintextCom, you need a GSM modem or compatible mobile 'phone connected to your computer through a serial port, or using a USB-to-serial adaptor. Setting up serial ports is discussed in the section on configuration and customisation in online help.

If you specify two consecutive port settings, the second is treated as a GSM modem (or mobile 'phone) and used for SMS text messages. If there is only one modem specified, it can be used for both telephone and text communications, providing your mobile 'phone provider support text-to-text operation. When using a mobile 'phone for sending and receiving texts with WintextCom, you should ensure that your mobile 'phone provider does not have any contractual objections to this use of their service.

Currently, WintextCom supports sending and receiving texts in text mode only, not PDU mode. You should ensure that your mobile device supports text mode, and that it is set up to use it. If text mode is not the default setting for your device, you need to include it in the initialisation string.
