Sometimes, the Windows start menu contains mostly applications that are completely irrelevant to your use of the computer and which can even cause problems if activated accidentally, or a visually impaired user can get lost in the menus and end up in an unfamiliar situation.

In addition to enabling you to disable the start menu, WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) allows you to replace it with a custom command or personal menu.

Start menu configuration applies to both Windows logo keys, you cannot block one but not the other, and if a replacement action is assigned, it runs when either start key (Windows logo key) is pressed. Note that the start menu will still display if the start button is clicked or activated with a keystroke. Disabling the mouse prevents the start menu being displayed by clicking the start button, so that the only way to activate it is to bring it into focus and press the space bar or ENTER key.

To configure the operation of the Windows keys, use the "yk" (for s-y-stem key) setup directive. Follow the letter "k" by a status byte and optional command line, as described below.

Thee optional command line follows directly after the status byte and can be any valid command that can be executed in the WintextCom Personal Information Manager(tm) directory, not just a Windows program command line. Thus, you could assign a telephone number to the Windows keys to be able to dial it from any application, for example, or perform any other WTC directory action. If spaces occur within the command line, enclose it in double quotes ('"'), but place the opening quote immediately following the letter "y" that introduces the setup directive, rather than at the actual start of the command line; The closing quote should be right at the end, but the letter "k" and the status byte must be within the quotes.
